FAYE HAS ARRIVED!!

Well folks - SHE'S HERE!

Faye Garnet Bailey was born July 19th at 12:50pm. She weighed 7lbs, 10oz and measured 19 3/4 inches. She has blue eyes and red (that's right, RED) hair! We are so excited that she's here and can't wait to see what's in store!

As I did with Adam, here's her birth story for the record:

I will honestly say that this birthing process was a lot less stressful since the C-section was scheduled. I didn't have to wait to go into labor and I didn't have to fear that her heart would stop during labor because we didn't give her that opportunity. That's not to say that I wasn't nervous... I definitely was. I was having major surgery where a number of things could go wrong. I couldn't help but stress about something happening and leaving Rusty and Adam. However, I knew that the C-section was the best option for me and the baby and she had to come out at some time.

Anyways, we woke up, Rusty, Adam and I, on the 19th like we always do. I got dress and got Adam dressed. We went downstairs and had breakfast. Adam has been told for weeks that we would be going to the hospital to get Faye, but I really don't think he knows what that all means. While he was finishing breakfast, my parents arrived since they would be staying with Adam at our house while we stayed at the hospital. Nervous as I was, I wasn't in the mood for small talk, so I put on my (waterproof) make-up and probably came across as rude.

We arrived at the hospital and checked-in by 10:30 am. We had to first sign-in with the nurse, then with the billing department (we'd already sent in all of our insurance paperwork, but they've got to double check everything). We were then told to wait in the waiting room until the bed was ready... talk about agonizing. Rusty was as cool as a cucumber on his phone, but I couldn't focus on anything. I tensed up whenever someone walking into the room and mindlessly stared around the room.

Finally, a nurse brought us into the pre-op/post-op room. I was told to get in my gown and the IV was inserted. I didn't like the IV any more or less than I did last time. The nurse called my OB to tell her we were ready, but she was with another patient so we had to wait some more. Finally, we were ready to move. Rusty put on his bunny suit and we walked to the OR. That process was a lot different since last time I was rolled in an emergency and was lifted onto the table. This time, I walked in and sat on the table. I met with the anesthesiologist and received a spinal block - ouch. It started working immediately, so the nurses helped me lay down and began hooking up machines and put up the sheet. Rusty had to wait outside during this process, but came in directly after. He sat next to my head and my OB came in.

The whole surgery didn't feel like it took long and because there were no complications with me or Faye, she and Rusty got to stay in the room the whole time with me (unlike last time), so the whole closing process felt like it went a lot quicker.

I had talked with my OB about tying my tubes during the C-section, but she insisted on asking Rusty and I several more times before she made the cut - which I appreciate, but we were sure on our decision.

When everything was closed up, I was wheeled to the recovery room and I got to hold Faye for the first time and establish some skin-to-skin. We were there for about and hour before being taken into our room for the week. Once we got there, we settled in and Faye and I got checked out again.

Then... we invited family in, but that's for another post. ^_^
